HEES have been contracted to complete mechanical and electrical services for the new expansion facility at GW Pharma, the manufacturing facility located in Sittingbourne is the first large scale manufacturing for CBD products in the UK which will be used to support the recently approved Epidolex treatment for types of childhood epilepsy. The facility includes capabilities for milling, Decarboxylation and Liquid Dioxide Extraction, inclusive of large-scale systems within ATEX zones for clean room environment.
Our responsibilities across the 3-phases involved detail design of the mechanical and electrical services, working in collaboration with multiple vendors and designer to complete an integrated 3D model, combined with drawings for coordination and construction, overseeing the project from design to validation.
The facility built up from multiple phases consists of a supercritical CO2 extraction plant across three streams. Each stream supplied with CO2, Ethanol, Nitrogen, Compressed Air, & CIP. Electrically the systems included all the EC&I integration along with Pressure monitoring systems and ATEX rated zones and certification. The pressure relief valves that require piping up on site to several designated vent systems directed by the skid manufacturer, complexity included three-phase flow from the connecting equipment – Filter, Separator Evaporator, Extractor, Preheater, Pumps, Sub cooler, Working Tank and Condenser.
